The consortium of Companies: Mostostal Warszawa S.A. and Mostostal Pulawy S.A. is underway with the project commissioned by the City of Lodz for the construction of 1st stage multifunctional sports and entertainment arena. The contract for works was concluded on February 25th, 2008. The gross value of the project amounts to approximately PLN 105 million.
The arena, now under construction within the premises of Lodz Sports Club at Al. Unii Lubelskiej 2, is going to be one of the biggest venues of this type in Poland, with the platforms capable of accommodating from 10 to 13 thousand fans, as required. It will be able to host world cup level competitions in indoor track and field, team games (including handball, basketball, ice hockey), gymnastics, tennis and martial arts. The venue will be also adapted for the organisation of performances, concert halls, exhibitions, trade shows and congresses.
Mostostal Pulawy S.A. is responsible for the production and assembly of the steel roofing structures. The total weight of the assembled steel roofing structure amounts to 1915 tonnes. Related assembly works that started on May 2nd are planned to be completed on October 10th, 2008. At the peak workload, the construction and assembly of the steel structures will require approximately 100-people manning. The assembly works will be divided into nine stages and implemented with the help of temporary support structures and heavy craning equipment.
In cross-section, the roofing design is circle-shaped with the diameter of 135.8m. The roofing was designed in the form of a part-dome steel rod structure. The radius of dome curvature is 158m. The peak height of the dome from the arena floor is approximately 35m. The built-up area of the arena is 14.500m2, the total area 27.550 m2 and the above-the-ground cubic measure 385.000 m3.
