In April 2008 Mostostal Pulawy S.A. was awarded the General Contractor of the turnkey investment project "Construction of Flue Gas Desulphurisation System for Power Heating Plant at Zaklady Azotowe Pulawy S.A.". The contract is planned to be implemented in the years 2009-2010. The contract will be executed in cooperation with the US company Marsulex Environmental Technology Corporation, which will supply grant the licence to the desulphurisation technology (ammonia scrubbing) and the company Prozap Ltd., which is a general contractor of the design documentation.
What is ammonia scrubbing?
Flue gases emitted by the Power Heating Plant at Zaklady Azotowe "Pulawy" S.A. will be desulphurised in the wet process of absorption in ammonium sulphate and sulphite solution. Ammonium sulphite formed will be oxidised in the lower part of the absorber down to ammonium sulphate. The flue gas desulphurisation system is intended for scrubbing of the entire gas emissions from the Power Heating Plant (guaranteed parameters of the system to be achieved on the gas stream from four boilers at maximum load). Due to the huge differences in boiler load between the winter and summer periods, the FGD system will operate at 40% to 100% of its capacity. The desulphurisation system will yield bulk microcrystalline ammonium sulphate as the end-tap product.
